To a mixture of 2-chloronicotinaldehyde (10 g, 71 mmol) and methyl 2- mercaptoacetate (7.6 g, 71 mmol) in anhydrous N, N-dimethylformamide (100 mL) was added anhydrous triethylamine (14 g, 0.14 mol). The mixture was stirred at 100 °C for 3 hours. On completion, the solution was concentrated in vacuo and purified by silica gel column chromatography [petroleum ether : ethyl acetate = 10: 1 ] to give B-130 (10 g, 72% yield) as a white solid. LCMS: (ES+) m/z (M+H)+ = 194.1 , tR=0.671.
