Steps:

Trifluoroacetic acid (21 .5 mL, 280.96 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of Boc- piperazine (3) (2.98 g, 10.76 mmol) in dichloromethane (21 .5 ml .) at 0°C (ice). The solution was stirred at 0°C for 10 min then the cold bath was removed and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The solution was neutralised to pH 9 using saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The dichloromethane layer was removed and the remaining aqueous solution was extracted with dichloromethane (x 2). The organic extracts were combined and washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, water and brine, then dried (Na₂S0₄). The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to afford the product (4) as a light yellow oil (1.91 g. 99 %), which was of sufficient purity to use in the next step, with all analytical data matching that reported in the literature (E. Carceller , M. Merlos , M. Giral , C. Almansa , J. Bartroii , J. Garcia-Rafanell , J. Torn ./. Med. Chem.. 1993, 36, 2984- (0179) 2997). T l NMR (300 MHz; CDCI,) δ 1 .95 (s, 111), 2.44 - 2.47 (m, 4H), 2.88 - 2.91 (m, 411). 3.62 (s, 2H). 7. 13 (dd.
