Benzyl protected compound 8a (3.56 g, 15.0 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (300 mL). A catalytic amount of Pd/C wasadded to the reaction mixture. The reaction was stirred for 5 h under a hydrogen atmosphere, after which TLC confirmed complete conversion of the starting material. The reaction mixture was filtered and all volatiles were removed in vacuo, yielding 7 (69%)as a transparent oil. Spectral data are in accordance with those reported in the literature
