22.b (b) 5-chloro-4-methylpyrimidine
To a solution of 5-chloro-4-methyl-4,5-dihydropyrimidine (2 g) in THF (30 mL) was added DDQ (1 g) dropwise at 0 °C and the resulting mixture was stirred for 6 hours. After the 5- chloro-4-methyl-4,5-dihydropyrimidine was consumed completely as shown by TLC, water (30 mL) was added and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3 x 50 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over anhydrous Na2S04. After filtration and concentration, the crude product was purified by column chromatography to give the title compound.
