Steps:
Pyrazine-2,5-dialdehyde (1):
To a suspension of compound 8 (2.0 g, 14.27 mmol) in dry 1,4-dioxane (100 mL) was added activated MnO2 (6.0 g, 69.00 mmol) and the resulting mixture was heated at 96 °C under N2 atm for 45 min. It was filtered through sintered glass and the residue was washed by chloroform (100 mL). The combined filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to get the title compound 1 (1.65 g, 85%) as a light yellow solid. Mp: 118-119 °C (lit. m.p.: 124-125 °C).3 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): d 10.23 (s, 2H), 9.30 (s, 2H). 13C NMR (75 MHz, CDCl3): d 191.8, 148.7, 143.4. HRMS (DCI+CH4) Calcd. for C6H5N2O2 [M+H]+: 137.0351. Found: 137.0326.
