Steps:
1,3-Thiaselenol-2-ylmethyl selenocyanate (3).
Powdered selenium, 84 mg (1.06 mmol), was added to a solution of 70 mg (1.07 mmol) of potassium cyanatein 5 mL of methanol. The mixture was stirred until selenium dissolved (~30 min), methanol was distilled off, and a solution of 257 mg (1.05 mmol) of thiaselenole 1 in 5 mL of acetonitrile was added to the resulting potassium selenocyanate. The mixture was stirred for 5 min at room temperature and filtered, the solvent was distilled off from the filtrate on a rotary evaporator, and the residue was dried under reduced pressure. Yield 274 mg (97%), light yellow oily material. 1H NMR spectrum, δ, ppm: 3.38 d.d (1H,NCSeCH2, 3JHH = 8.2, 2JHH = 12.2 Hz), 3.44 d.d (1H,NCSeCH2, 3JHH = 7.1, 2JHH = 12.2 Hz), 5.05 d.d (1H,SeCHS, 3JHH = 7.1, 8.2, 2JSeH = 24.5 Hz), 6.40 d (1H,SCH=, 3JHH = 6.3 Hz), 6.64 d (1H, SeCH=, 3JHH = 6.3,2JSeH = 48.5 Hz). 13C NMR spectrum, δC, ppm: 38.20(NCSeCH2, 1JSeC = 52 Hz), 46.71 (SeCHS, 1JSeC =71 Hz), 101.30 (NCSe), 113.98 (SeCH=, 1JSeC =106 Hz), 119.49 (SCH=). Mass spectrum, m/z (Irel, %):271 (50) [M]+, 165 (39) [M - NCSe]+, 151 (100) [M -NCSeCH2]+, 107 (23) [C2H3Se]+, 85 (93) [C4H5S]+, 84(86) [C4H4S]+, 71 (64) [C3H3S]+, 59 (66) [C2H3S]+, 58(87) [C2H2S]+, 45 (71) [CHS]+. Found, %: C 22.03;H 1.83; N 4.97. C5H5NSSe2. Calculated, %: C 22.32;H 1.87; N 5.21.
