2.7.1. General procedure for the preparation of compound b
General procedure: To a solution of a selected phenol (a, 5 mmol) in dry acetone(25 mL) was added an equivalent of anhydrous K2CO3, which was heated to reflux (or in dry DMSO at room temperature). Then, 4.5 mmol of ethyl bromoacetate (or ethyl 3-bromopropionate) in dry acetone or DMSO (5 mL) was added dropwise over 30 min. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3-8 h (monitored by TLC), and was poured into distilled water (20 mL). The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3×50 mL),dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash silica chromatography to afford b.
