General Procedure for Synthesis of Aldehyde

General procedure: To a solution of (4-methyl-2-phenylthiazole-5-yl)methanol, 2a (10 mmol) in DMSO(30 mL), 2-iodoxybenzoic acid (11 mmol) was added, and the reaction mixture was stirredat 20 C. The progress of the reaction was monitored on TLC. After completion of thereaction (20 min), the reaction mixture was filtered and washed with DMSO (5 mL).Water(90 mL) was added to the filtrate and extracted with diethyl ether (3 × 30 mL). The organiclayer was washed with water, brine, and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilledto afford white solid 3a (1.93 g) in 95% yield.
