Steps:
1 Intermediate IB: 3-methoxy-2-nitrobenzaldehyde
To a stirred solution of (3-methoxy-2-nitrophenyl)methanol (3.4 g, 18.6 mmol) in DCM (25 mL) was added celite followed by PCC (6.0 g, 27.8 mmol) at room (0270) temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated to afford a brown solid. The crude compound was purified by column chromatography (silica gel column, 0-20% ethyl acetate in pet-ether) to provide 3-methoxy-2-nitrobenzaldehyde (2.6 g, 77% yield) as a white crystalline solid. 1HNMR (300 MHz, DMSO-de) d 9.94 (s, 1H), 7.93-7.58 (m, 3H), 3.94 (s, 3H). LC-MS: m/z 182.1 (M+H).
