11 B) 2-FLUORO-5-ISOPROPENVL-PVRIDINE A solution of 2- (6-FLUORO-PYRIDIN-3-YL)-PROPAN-2-OL (8.3 g, 53.5 MMOL) and p-TSA monohydrate (0.46 g, 2.7 MMOL) in toluene (500 mL) is REFLUXED with a Dean-Stark trap and a condenser until the theoretical amount of water is collected. The reaction is then cooled and extracted with sat. NAHC03 (3 x 50 mL). Volatiles are removed to yield 7.30 g (99%) product as a straw colored oil. 'H NMR (300 MHz, CDCI3) No. 8.21 (d, 1 H, J = 2.53), 7.77 (m, 1 H), 6.81 (dd, 1H, J = 8.34, 2.78), 5.28 (s, 1H), 5.09 (s, 1H), 2.08 (s, 3H).
