Step 2; (6-Chloro-pyridin-3-yl)-phenyl-methanone; To a solution of product from step 1 (320 mg, 1.82 mmol) in 10 mL anhydrous benzene was added AlCl3 (683 mg, 5.12 mmol) and the reaction mixture was refluxed for 1.5 h. The mixture was cooled and poured into EtOAc and water, and the organic layer was dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and the solvent was removed in vacuo to obtain the title compound as a pale yellow solid. (348 mg, 88%).
