Steps:
To a solution of 2-bromoiodobenzene (10 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added n-BuLi (2.5M solution in n-hexane, 2.0 mL, 5.0 mmol) at -78 oC under nitrogen atmosphere. Thereaction mixture was then warmed to 25 oC over a two hours and hydrolyzed with a 1.0 Maqueous hydrochloric acid solution (20 mL). After the aqueous layer was extracted withdiethyl ether (3 x 40 mL), the combined organic layer was dried over MgSO4 andconcentrated under reduced pressure. Upon crystallization from ethanol, 2-bromo-2'-iodobiphenyl was obtained as a colorless needle (2.58 g, 73%).
