2,7-Dichloro-l,8-naphthyridine (4). S1-3
A mixture of 3 (1.10 g, 6.79 mmol), phosphorus pentachloride (3.00 g, 14.40 mmol), and phosphorus oxychloride (2.57 g, 16.76 mmol) was heated to reflux for 6 h. Then, the mixture was poured over crushed ice and the solution was made alkaline with sodium carbonate until the value of pH reached 8. A brown precipitate was collected and recrystallized from acetone to give 4 as a pale yellow powder (1.00 g, 5.08 mmol, 74%). 1H-NMR (500 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.63 (d, J = 8.5 Hz, 2 H), 7.81 (d, J = 8.5 Hz, 2 H).
