Steps:
A procedure for the synthesis of 9H-fluorene-2,7-diamine 3
2,7-Dinitrofluorene 2 (25.0 g, 98.0 mmol) and Pd/C (578 mg, 4.9 mmol) in THF/MeOH (600 mL, 1/1 v/v) was stirred at room temperature for 24 h under H2. The catalyst was removed by filtration through a pad of Celite and washed with ethyl acetate. The filtrate was concentrated to give 322 (19.7 g, quant) as a gray solid. The product was used in the next reaction without further purication; mp 160-162 C; 1H NMR (270 MHz, CDCl3) d 3.64 (bs, 4H), 3.72 (s,2H), 6.66 (dd, J7.6, 2.2 Hz, 2H), 6.83 (s, 2H), 7.41 (d, J8.6 Hz, 2H).
