Steps:

Step 2. Synthesis of (2-(4-fluorophenyl)oxazol-4-yl)methanol (6a)

General procedure: A suspension of LAH (1.4 g, 35 mmol) in anhydrous THF (20 mL) was cooled to -10 °C (ice/sodium chloride bath), then a solution of 5a (4.80 g, 23 mmol) in anhydrous THF (30 mL) was added dropwise. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was quenched with water (1.4 mL), 10% sodium hydroxide (1.4 mL) and water (4.2 mL). The solution was then filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 6a (3.55g, 80% yield) as a pale yellow solid.
