Steps:
Preparation of N-Ethyl-N-phenylthiourea
N-Ethylamine (9.7 g, 80 mmol) was dissolved in 8.0 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid; the reaction mixture was concentrated by evaporation in a steam bath. The resulting solution was treated with an excess of potassium thiocyanate(11.7 g, 120 mmol) solution and evaporated to dryness. The inorganic portion ofthe residue was removed with a small amount of water, and the remaining thiourea was recrystallized from ethanol. This gave yellow crystals of N-ethyl-N-phenylthiourea, 94% yield.
