,000 liters of the 99.5% pure a-BPTT obtained and 3,000 liters of pure water were mixed in a reaction vessel and a hydrolysis reaction was carried out at a reaction temperature of 200° C. at a pressure of 1.5 to 2.0 MPa for 48 hours with pure water being fed at a rate of 300 L/H. The hydrolyzate mixture obtained was cooled to 50° C. and seed crystals were added to give rise to crystallization. The mixture containing the crystals formed was sent to a centrifuge and centrifugation was carried out at 40° C. to separate the crystals. The a-BPTA crystals obtained had a purity of 99.7% and a yield of 100%.
