General Description

Agmatine sulfate is a chemical found in bacteria, plants, and animals, including humans. It is made from an amino acid called arginine.

Agmatine sulfate appears to help manage different chemicals and pathways in the brain. This may improve certain conditions of the brain and nervous system.

People use agmatine sulfate to treat alcohol use disorder, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, depression, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Benefits

Agmatine sulfate is a polyamine formed by the decarboxylation of arginine; it is a putative endogenous neurotransmitter at imidazoline receptors. Agmatine sulfate can replace clonidine at α2-adrenergic and imidazoline receptors, and recent studies suggest that it has some neuroprotective effects.

Agmatine sulfate is a small molecule synthesized from arginine in the human body. In simple terms, agmatine is converted from arginine. Agmatine has a dual function:

A) Selectively inhibits the enzyme that breaks down nitric oxide, resulting in an increase in nitric oxide (NO).

B) Directly increases the amount of NO. Direct stimulation and increase of NO can increase nutrient delivery, improve metabolism, and most importantly, improve overall physical function.

Side Effects

Limited human evidence suggests that agmatine sulfate may have mild to moderate side effects, such as diarrhea and mild nausea, but these side effects disappear with time or when treatment is interrupted. Further research is needed to determine if agmatine is safe to use.
