Monoclonal
antibody CEA-Scan (Immunomedics) [Note—The clinically
administered preparation is the monoclonal antibody
(arcitumomab) labeled with technetium Tc 99m, or
technetium Tc 99m arcitumomab The CAS name for this
preparation is Immunoglobulin G 1 (mo. | [General Description]
Arcitumomab (CEA-Scan) is a murine monoclonal Fab’fragment of IMMU-4, an MAb generated in murine ascitesfluid. Both IMMU-4 and arcitumomab react with carcinoembryonicantigen (CEA), a tumor-associated antigenwhose expression is increased in various carcinomas, especiallythose of the GI tract. The preparation is a protein, murine Ig Fab fragment from IgG1, for chemical labelingwith Tc-99m. Arcitumomab/Tc-99m is for use with standard diagnosticevaluations for detecting the presence, location, andextent of recurrent or metastatic colorectal carcinoma involvingthe liver, extrahepatic abdomen, and pelvis, with ahistologically confirmed diagnosis. IMMU-4 (and the Fab’fragments of arcitumomab) bind to carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA), whose expression is increased in carcinoma.Arcitumomab/Tc-99m is injected, and the radionuclidescan is read 2 to 5 hours later. |
