Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Description]
Molybdenum(IV) selenide, also known as molybdenum diselenide or 12058-18-3, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MoSe2. It belongs to a group of compounds called transition metal disulfides (TMDCs), which are formed by combining a transition metal with an element from group 16 on the periodic table. MoSe2 has higher electrical conductivity than MoS2.

The monolayer film of molybdenum diselenide, with a direct optical band gap of 1.48 eV and a photoluminescence peak at 840 nm, is highly suitable for optoelectronic applications. Moreover, when compared to MoS2, MoSe2 ultrathin films demonstrate a narrower bandgap, higher optical absorbance, and larger spin-splitting energy. These characteristics make MoSe2 films potentially superior to MoS2 for the utilization in tunnel FETs and optoelectronic devices. | [Preparation]
Mo and Se were mixed at a molar ratio of 1:2, and molybdenum and selenium reacted at a temperature of 800 to 1150°C to form mainly molybdenum diselenide(MoSe2). High-quality monolayer films of molybdenum diselenide were successfully grown directly on SiO2/Si substrates using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. | [Synthesis]
Chemical exfoliation, utilizing N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent, allows for the large-scale production of nano-particles and nano-sheets. This method enables the direct preparation of molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) quantum dots from bulk powder of molybdenum diselenide.? |
